Saint John the Baptist Chapel of Rugney

The chapel of Saint John the Baptist of Xugney is the oldest Templar vestige in Lorraine. Built after 1160, in late Romanesque style, it was part of a larger complex called “commanderie”, which included a chapter house, a cloister, residential buildings for soldier monks, as well as storage and other constructions.

This small farm has survived through the centuries with all the hazards that this may have caused on the site. The buildings have been transformed, moved, destroyed and rebuilt.

The monks, who occupied this chapel, forged its history, imbued with calm, serenity and a strong spiritual dimension, for six hundred years.
