On the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the foundation of the Order of the Temple, the association « Friends of the History of Vianden » will commemorate the activities of the « poor brothers of Christ » at Vianden Castle.

The exhibition will take you on a journey through the history of the Knights Templar, from its origins to the trial with emphasis on local aspects such as the involvement of the Luxembourg archbishops in the trial of the Knights Templar in Trier and Mainz, the links between Emperor Henry VII of Luxembourg and the Knights Templar, the Counts of Vianden and the Knights Templar of Roth, the Counts of Luxembourg and the Knights Templar of Pierrevillers, the possible presence of Templar frescoes in the chapel of the castle until the 17th century, etc.

The exhibition will be complemented by historical reconstructions of the Templars’ clothing and civil and military equipment based on the articles of the rule and contemporary representations (Perugia, Libro de los Juegos, Villalcazar de Sigra, Barletta, Villers-Le-Temple etc).

On the weekend of October 3 and 4, Luxembourg and French reenactment troupes will stage a hypothetical chapter of the Lorraine Templars of the year 1220, and the association will present the historical reconstruction of a Sunday lunch in a Templar refectory.
